The Holy Ghost teaches by comparing spiritual things with spiritual, and Christ Himself commands us to search the Scriptures, appealing to them to prove His resurrection. Jesus warns that even omitting a single letter—making a word singular when the prophet used the plural—would break the Scriptures, and the apostle Paul shares this same high view of Scripture. As David declares, “The Lord’s word was my tongue,” so inspiration is God’s breath using the prophets’ vocal organs. All Scripture is thus inspired so that we may know the way of life. Abraham’s belief in God’s word was counted to him for righteousness, but Saul’s unbelief cost him his kingdom. To think that God’s words can be changed is as grievous as witchcraft.
